We wanted to share an update regarding the current situation in Guatemala.
In August, Guatemala held its presidential elections. However, the current Guatemalan government has taken actions to invalidate the election results, leading to widespread protests. Guatemalan citizens have taken to the streets to protect their democratic rights, calling for the resignation of key political figures, including the Attorney General.
These protests have led to nation-wide roadblocks and limited mobility, causing disruptions, including the suspension of classes at many schools. The situation remains precarious, and there is uncertainty about what the future holds.
These events have affected UPAVIM. Currently, UPAVIM's school has suspended classes for the time being. Luckily at the moment, our artisans can continue working part days as most of them live locally. Local grocery stores are currently closed, and they're adapting to the situation. Luckily our US Warehouse is well stocked for the holidays. It is in times like these that projects like UPAVIM are more vital than ever.
Our unwavering commitment to empowering women and uplifting the community drives us forward. As we navigate through these uncertain times, our thoughts and prayers are with the UPAVIMAS and all Guatemalans seeking a brighter future. We kindly ask for your continued support this holiday season. You can make a difference in the lives of many by choosing to donate, shop our handcrafted goods, or simply spread the word about UPAVIM. Together, we can bring hope and positive change to those who need it most.
